I hope I don’t get scalped for bringing the Spice Girls up on the hallowed Le Style Blog… but… well, how well they’ve matured - I remember never being remotely impressed with any of their looks when they first hit the stage, but now, well… just look at the photo. Only sporty looks, well, less than remarkably bloody good looking - there, I’ve said it!

Burning Man is an eight-day-long annual festival that takes place in Black Rock City, a temporary city in Black Rock Desert in Nevada, 150 km northt of Reno in September each year.

Burning Man Beauty

The event is described by organisers as an experiment in community, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance and takes its name from the ritual of burning a large wooden sculpture of a man on the sixth day. How weird and wondering does life get!

I’m a bit of a sucker when it comes to time pieces. The more out-there the better.

Uber-Watch

It doesn’t get more out-there than this, from Urwerk, the 201 they call it. Get this: the thing even features an oil change indicator to show the “watch” is due a servicing. It has a 100-year-plus lifetime expectation, and the hands adjust their length to display the correct time on the face. Swatch it’s not, nor is it Swatch-like in it’s price, it’s gonna be over US$50k, and they will make only 10 of the suckers… I could be waiting a while.

Well it’s not really called that, but it’s not wrong to dub it such. Microsoft released the new-look Zune today, and it’s looking pretty good, but with the latest changes to the iPod (iPod touch and iPod nanos), it’s unlikely it’s going to be an iPod killer over the Christmas period.

Launch of Zune 2.0

Still, Microsoft >are< making some positive waves at last, especially in light of the battering Apple is taking this last week over the iPhone firmware updates, and how it’s alienating its fans.

Trés clever advert from trainerwear manufacturer Izumi. I love this kind of approach, take a WAY tenuous connection to your product, and use it to promote, really nice.

ozumi.jpg

Wanna know three things I’d do differently?

1. “climbed into the wrong panel van” is wrong. a) it requires an American to understand it. b) “climbing into” gets away from the running, they needn’t have done so.

2. “Run like an animal” is weak, and brings us back to the norm of corporate taglines, the advert would have finished more strongly with “civic duty.”

3. No prominent logo, and Izumi’s brand recognition isn’t so strong that the little logo on the side of the muddy shoe covers it, nor does the little red version after “animal”. Never miss the opportunity to display your brand prominently.

I live in a country that is not my own, I speak a language that is not my own when in that country, and sometimes… things happen. Today, a visit to the hairdressers… I was speaking in this language that is not my own, with a stylist who doesn’t speak this language as a first language either. We don’t share a common language other than this language. This is when I should have walked out, and rescheduled with someone I could communicate effectively with, especially considering it’s my hair we’re talking about.

Perhaps I should have paid more attention to what said stylist was doing, but suffice to say, I will not be going out tonight, nor tomorrow night, and I may well stay in for the coming week. I’m even considering trying to work from home next week. My hair… this morning… was longer than in the photo that accompanies this post… and I quite liked it that way, having cultivated it for some weeks… my hair… now, as I type this, and as small snippets of hair falls to the keyboard intermittently over these past five minutes… my hair… now, is shorter than in the photo that accompanies this post. I speak clearly, for I want no further confusion today, I advise… NEVER… to get your hair cut in a country where language… might get you in trouble.

No photo today, I can’t bear to share.

Yeah, we all need another Apple story, right? But it’s new news, breaking news even, we might even be the first blog on this side of the internet to cover this story. The iPod, that luxury item that has a tendency to break after 366 days of usage has been revamped, and relaunched as a touch screen iPod, with wireless access, and a ‘net browser.

The back flap of the book says it all “What kind of housewife are you? Are you someone who couldn’t possibly leave the house before you’ve pruned, dusted and filed? Are you a single mum who will go to extraordinary lengths for live? Are you an ex-career girl who is now in constant panic mode trying to run your household like the stock exchange? Or are you a bored Trophy Wife?”

This book looks at four stereotypical housewives (Single Mom, Alpha Wife, Stressed-Out Wife, and Trophy Wife), advising each type on how to live “happily ever after.”

How Not To Be A Desperate Housewife

I don’t think Keisha would much approved, and rightly so, but it’s all a bit of fun.

Since no comments seem to be in vogue today, I’m joining in!

We’ve all had bad experiences with online dating: the headshot, which hid the waistline dimensions; the particular interest in contact-sports, which hid the lesbian-in-denial; the early-clinging signs which should have signaled the stalker-like mentality…

Sometimes though, it works. Sometimes, just sometimes, it can be a positive experience, an education, a lifelong bank of memories, and every once in a while might even lead to love.

Check-out Mira and Brian from Canada, who met on Match.com, and who are married exactly one year today.
Online Dating, Sometimes It Works…

‘livinglifealways’ (aka Brian) emailed ‘mokshaheart’ (aka Mira) in mid-November. Three weeks later, she emerged from her virtual slumber and returned the message. By then Brians’ subscription to the site had expired, he was seriously considering letting the opportunity pass. Then again, she was REALLY cute. He decided to dig around a bit, and alas, he found the solution. A special offer for three free days! He returned the message, and the rest is history.

Pro Keds is a sneaker company that has been around for sometime now, but lately hasn’t been getting a lot of attention. When first launched in 1949, many styles attained cult status in the neighborhoods of New York among the streetwise who adopted PRO-Keds as the first real sneaker with style. PRO-Keds became the shoe of choice with b-boys everywhere and earned its place as a true icon of early hip-hop culture.
Pro-Keds Making A Return

After an absence of nearly 20 years, PRO-Keds is reissuing some classic styles (such as those seen here) from its archives, bringing to life once again the heritage and history of the brand.
